My name’s Sølvi. And I’m Ole Kristian.

And we run the arts centre ­– Torvet – in Åsgårdstrand.

Here we have concerts and art exhibitions.

We’ve had a Lego building weekend, book-bath, theatre performances, lectures and themed evenings.

And we have all kinds of concerts, everything from laid-back ballad concerts to proper rock ’n’ roll.

New artists and artists with lots of experience.

Our arts centre hosts lots of really different things, and that’s what’s such fun about having your own arts centre – we can do what we want.

We were just out for a drive when we saw a ‘for sale’ sign on this building in the middle of the square in Åsgårdstrand.

I just turned round to Sølvi and said ‘now buying that would be something’.

We put in an offer pretty much on impulse – we hadn’t spoken to the bank or anything – and then an hour later we’d bought this building.

Of course then we had to find out what we were going to use it for.

Then we were contacted by some local artists here at Åsgårdstrand, who needed a venue for their summer exhibition.

That’s right, and we, of course, were very happy to host it.

Then we thought now we must get a serving license and whatever else we need to run a little café-bar.

I remember we had to take the exam and neither of us had any previous experience. I messed up three times that day.

I managed it at the second attempt.

Yes, you managed it on the second go.

And we did it because we had the art exhibition coming up and events organised after that too.

So that was really the start of our arts centre.

There was a summer art exhibition.

Then there were concerts and then there was just more and more.

It’s great fun running an arts centre in Åsgårdstrand, here in Horten because Horten really is a cultural town.

I did it on the second try. Yes, you did it on the second try.

And we got there because we were going to have an art exhibition and events afterwards too. And that was really the start of our cultural center. Then there was a summer of art exhibitions. There were concerts and then there was just more and more.

It's really fun to run a cultural center in Åsgårdstrand and here in Horten because Horten is a cultural city.
