Lilaas AS has more than 50 years of experience in producing precision mechanics for the most demanding industries.

LEADING THE WAY

“What we are most proud of is being able to deliver quality products to internationally demanding customers and leading the way in our specific niches,” says Lilaas’ CEO, Espen Hoff.

The company produces small mechanical-precision components, which are inserted into either customers’ products or their own. Lilaas' own control levers also integrate electronics and software.

“Ever since we were founded, we have led the way when it comes to production technology, especially within mechanical production,” says Hoff.

“Over the years we have chosen to add both electronics and software to be able to offer a more complete system to our customers. We are, in other words, a very forward-looking technology company.”

Lilaas' products are used in the defence, medical and space-related industries. However, it is the maritime industry that accounts for the largest share of sales.

“In the maritime segment, you’ll find our products on the bridge for navigation, but we also deliver control systems that remain in the engine room.” Hoff explains.

The Norwegian-developed systems are often installed on larger ships, such as supply boats, ferries, tankers and cruise ships. Now the company is also focused on establishing a clearer profile with systems designed for the yacht industry.

DEPENDENT ON EXPERTISE

The international technology market involves tough competition, but Lilaas delivers strong results year upon year. Hoff believes that employees with the right skills are one of the reasons for the company's success.

“Here at our company, we have production expertise in machining and assembly, while engineering disciplines such as electronics design, machine design and software development are all well-represented,” says Hoff.

“We have a good range of expertise among those who work here, and we’re completely dependent on that to be able to continue delivering quality products. And that’s exactly why Horten is a great place for us to be. There are lots of people here with precisely the types of expertise that Lilaas needs. In addition to that, many important technology companies are also gathered in Horten, both on the customer side and the supplier side.”

Today, Lilaas exports around 50% of its products directly. The largest market shares are in Europe, China and the USA, and the company wants to invest even more in the future:

“We have always been at the forefront of technology. It started with mechanics, but over the years we have added both electronics and software to be able to offer more complete solutions. This has yielded good results, and in the future we aim to become an even stronger player in production technology and control systems.”
