"A healthy Oslo Fjord"

In order to help the Oslo Fjord, we need to know what’s happening down there. We need careful mapping and to get concrete facts on the table. Horten, with its unique location on the Oslo Fjord, is a natural place for both innovation and environmental improvement. Using advanced sensors and autonomous submarines, Kongsberg Discovery has been creating maps of ecology of the Oslo Fjord seabed for the past five years. This technology allows us to see down to a level of detail of 2–4 cm – a degree of insight that was unthinkable just five years ago.

In this way, data is collected on, for example, fish stocks. The absence of fish is a clear signal that the fjord is struggling. Thanks to our collaboration with the Institute of Marine Research and the Geological Survey of Norway (NGU), we now know what the fjord looks like, which species are to be found and which areas are most vulnerable. This mapping is an important part of the "Healthy Oslo Fjord" project.
